A DIY Headband holder and some Pinterest Love

Oh, how I do love summer. {have I mentioned that before?} I can enjoy not being a slave to schedules and activities, I can sit around be productive in ways that I don’t have time to be during the school year. Surprisingly, although it has been hot, it hasn’t been nearly as miserable as last summer. Last year at this time we were working on beating the record for the most 100 degree consecutive days. I think we missed it by one or two! All that to say I have been much more motivated to work on little projects here and there. I managed to clean out the girls room, and that was a PRO-JECT! I was determined to make it more efficient and give a place for every thing…and everything a place {I feel like saying that in a Mary Poppins voice, for some reason} It has long been out of control.

One of the projects I made at craft night was a head band holder to help control all those unruly hair accessories that were taking up space in their room. It’s working beautifully.

DIY headband holder

All I needed was an empty oatmeal container, some cute fabric, and a glue gun. It took less than 10 minutes! I especially love that I can hide all those little pony tail holders inside.

And just to be sure I don’t neglect Pinterest, Here are a few things we have enjoyed of late.

cookie dough dip

This is Cookie Dough Dip, and I swear it’s so addicting. it was brought to craft night and although I restrained myself I think if I was left in a dark room alone, I would have licked the bowl clean.

no bake energy bites

I made these energy bites, and they to were really good, and very easy. They only took me about 5 minutes to throw together. I almost hate that I’m posting them though, because I changed up several of the ingredients, just to use what I had on hand, and Steven suggested adding crushed up pretzels, which I think made them even better.

And Last but not least…

Taco Pizza

Taco Pizza. We have been slacking in our Friday Night Pizza nights, so when we saw this pizza we knew we had to try it. It is easy and very yummy.

Again, the Pinterest pictures are not my own, which is clearly noticed by mere observation Winking smile

I mentioned we were going to do a craft day this past weekend and we did! It was such a fun productive afternoon and evening. I didn’t get home until almost midnight! We didn’t plan on the theme being a pinterest party but it turned out like that. Just about everyone had some craft that they had pinned and were just waiting for the perfect time to do it. I’ll be sharing some of the great projects that everyone made over the next few weeks.

Even several of the snacks were pinterest finds. Man I love pinterest!

So we crafted, ate, chatted, had a few dance offs…soooo wished I had pictures of that, and laughed…and laughed. We even had time to end the night with girly manicures. Thankfully I have the world’s best husband so I got to hang out and enjoy myself child-free. Love that man.

Here is one of the projects I worked on.

I took an old brown cabinet door that I picked up at a garage sale for $1.00, Loosely spray painted it white, used a rubber stamp and a piece of burlap along with a little black paint and some Modge Podge to create this:

I’m not sure if the picture does it justice, I think the modge podge was still drying. It was a cheap and easy project. I am working on a “wall” project in our family room so that is where it will most likely go.

This picture was my “pinterest” inspiration:

If you are lazy and like the look,  the picture came from Etsy. If you want to purchase one similar to this check it out here:

And of course every good craft day has to end with a manicure, right?

Thanks Rebekah for sharing your stuff. Lovin’ my nails!

Pinterest Love

I have yet to be steered wrong with my Pinterest experiments. I’m very excited because this weekend I’m going to have a whole day to craft and you can bet I will be crossing off a few things from my craft board {honestly, if you have no idea what I’m talking about you are missing out } Hopefully I will have some of those to share next week. But in the mean time this is what we have been enjoying.

Honey Glazed Pork chops. These were good. They had a nice flavor and were tender.  I wish I would have had more time to marinate them, but it was a last minute decision to make them. We will definitely try them again.

southwest Chicken

Southwest Chicken. You will have to go to my food board for the recipe, there was no link. ;( This was really good but only after I added some more spices, and a bit of ranch dressing. I only added half of the Rotel otherwise there was no way my children were going to eat it. I will put these back on the menu because it was so quick and easy. We served it wrapped in a tortilla.

cheesecake bars

Carmel Apple Cheesecake Bars– Oh, dear. These are delicious. And yes, they are as sinful as they look. You don’t even want to know about the butter! If you have some time- because they do take time, and you have some place to take them- so you don’t eat them all yourself… and then blame me, they are completely worth it!

T-shirt Scarf – And to prove that I don’t just use pinterest for eating, I made this cute scarf {soooo easy} at a women’s fellowship.Seriously, anyone can do it if you have a pair of scissors and a T-shirt.

Again, These lovely pictures have been hijacked from their original source.

Pinterest Love

It’s A little Pinterest Love time. Here are some of the recipes we have tried recently.

bourbon Street chicken

Bourbon Street Chicken

This is really one of my new favorite dishes. It’s just sooooo good. It’s very similar to many Asian chicken dishes. It’s easy to make and uses ingredients that we usually have on hand.

salsa chicken

Slow Cooker Salsa Chicken

This was good, a little soupy. I might have to tweak it a little the next time I make it, we like it to be a little chunkier. But it was so easy to make and very tasty.

Banoffee Pie

This is DEElicious. If you like bananas that is. It requires a little planning and some time but it is very easy to make and you only need a four ingredients if you use a pre-bought pie crust. We had it at a friends once and have made it several times since.

saltine toffee

Saltine Toffee

These were good, but I didn’t fall in love with them. I made them one night when I needed a quick dessert to take somewhere. They were super duper easy, I had everything on hand and they were quick. In all fairness I only had butter crackers so they might have been better had I had the saltines instead.

Again you kind find all these and more on my Pinterest page under “Recipes I have to try.”

And once again…I have hijacked the pictures.

What would I do without Pinterest?

Besides Pinterest being a huge time waster in my life…(well actually I don’t spend that much time on it these days) it happens to be very useful. My family has really enjoyed most the new recipes that I have found the courage to try. I thought I would share some of our favorites.

Avocado Salsa Dip

Avocado Salsa

We tried something very similar to this at a picnic and it was soooo good.

French Dip Crescents

The kids loved this! It was easy to whip up for lunch. I’m not sure it would be filling enough for dinner…at least for the husband.

My husband  referred to this as the salsa that puts an end to all others. It was that good!

chicken chili

chicken chili

This is now my guy’s all time favorite meal. I enjoy it too, but the kids…not so much.

You can check out what else we might be cooking up by going to my Pinterest page

On a side note: I completely hijacked these pictures from their websites. They are not my own. My pictures would not be this appetizing Winking smile

Pinterest… my new time waster

If you have been around the web for any length of time lately you surely would have come across Pinterest. It’s my new obsession. It will probably be yet another excuse to keep me from blogging, and housekeeping, schooling, bathing… (just kidding)  If you have never checked it out, you can click on my link  and see why I have become so obsessed. Pinterest does exactly what I have been trying to do on my own for years in a very easy compact way. It takes all of the wonderful ideas I find across the web and puts them in neat categories that I can easily reference. Plus I get to see what my other friends on Pinterest are up to and borrow from their genious ideas. So if you don’t have an account, please make one and follow me so I can follow you back and glean from all the wonderful ideas you find. I am working my way through every recipe that I have placed in my board and so far I have not been disappointed.

Who knows, maybe it will give me something more to talk about on this blog… because lately I’m seriously lacking in original thought.
